Job Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible for rendering professional, technical and age appropriate peri anesthesia nursing care for pre and post surgical and pre and post anesthetic patients. The individual in this position provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process and directs or supervises support staff and collaborates with physicians and multi-disciplinary team members.


Education / Experience: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. Minimum of two-years nursing experience, with at least one year in critical care, Pediatric experience and PACU setting preferred. Pediatric Critical Care experience is preferred for the Pediatric PACU setting. Refresher course required for nurses who have not worked in an acute setting for five years or more.


Reports To: Manager - PACU


Licensure and Certification:

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina (in all PACU settings)

Inpatient PACU setting: Current BLS, ACLS & PALS (or completion of ACLS & PALS within one year of hire)

Outpatient PACU setting: Current BLS & ACLS (or completion of ACLS with one year of hire)

Pediatric PACU setting: Current BLS & PALS (or completion of PALS within one year of hire).

Pre op setting Current BLS & ACLS/PALS preferred



Essential Functions :

1.

Communicates professionally and effectively with the health care team, patients and family /visitors.


2.

Promotes a safe and healthy working environment by utilizing clear communication, collaboration and teamwork.


3.

Utilizes the nursing process and adheres to policies/procedures/guidelines to ensure efficient, appropriate and safe patient care. Documents care accurately in EMR.


4.

Accepts personal responsibility and initiative for professional growth and development.


5.

Provides appropriate teaching and direction for patients and family through consideration of age, physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious and environmental needs.


6.

Provides age/developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.


7.

Accountable to maintaining environment /equipment /supplies


Skills and Qualifications

Good interpersonal, communication (verbal, nonverbal) and listening skills.

Ability to safely provide direct and indirect patient care.

Knowledge of airway management and management of patients in altered states of consciousness.

Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring, fluid management, anesthetic agents and dysrhythmia recognition.

Knowledge of Infection Control Practices.
