POSITION SUMMA
RY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Safe Sitter Instructor facilitates and teaches Safe Sitter classes, motivating young adults (ages 11-16) as they learn necessary life skills, safety skills, and childcare training in preparation for babysitting.
Classes are taught on the second and third Saturday of each month. 9:00 am -3:30 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conducts Safe Sitter courses in a manner consistent with the course design, evaluating and making suggestions to participants for improvement
- Prepare materials, content, and classroom for activities, communicating course objectives to students to build and maintain effective, positive relationships with staff and participants
- Manages class rosters and cancellation procedures and maintains accurate and complete class records as required
- Commit to preparing young adolescents for the profound responsibilities of nurturing and protecting children.
- Knows, reviews, and applies all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol
- Comply with Child Protection Policy as stated by Safe Sitter, Inc.
- Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with families about their child’s participation in classes, behaviors, special needs, and related topics, connecting families to the YMCA.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- At least 2 years of paid or volunteer experience in nursing, medicine, respiratory therapy, emergency services, health education, early childhood education, youth work or childcare experience (including parenting)
- Must have excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Valid Safe Sitter Instructor Training certification
- If not currently certified, YMCA will provide training upon hire.
- Valid Driver’s License, mode of transportation, and ability to meet YMCA driving requirements
- Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to correctly teach safety skills to classroom participants, maintaining alertness for extended periods of time
- The employee must occasionally lift and carry equipment up to 20 pounds
- The employee must occasionally work in uncomfortable stationary and upright positions, including stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

STARTING PAY: $15.75/hr
