A Safety Officer position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department / Field Operations Division. The Field Operations Division is a 24/7 operation and is the largest division of the Water Department and an integral function of the maintenance of the City of Fort Worth's infrastructure. These positions are essential to the daily operations of the Field Operations Division and an integral role in the department's success. The ideal candidate/s will be responsible for performing complex work in a variety of professional, technical and analytical safety functions in support of the assigned division/department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Safety management, occupational health, environmental safety or closely related field
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible safety and training experience
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Safety Professional (ASP or CSP)
  • Two (2) years of accident investigation experience
  • Bi-lingual - English/Spanish
  • One (1) year working in a utility or utility construction environment
  • A minimum of one (1) year giving presentations or conducting training classes to large groups

The Safety Officer job responsibilities include:

  • Oversee safety program development, training and safety issues related to the Water Department
  • Research and track employee training and statistics
  • Conduct accident investigation activities and reports
  • Coordinate with management, supervision, other departments and divisions for overall safety and training efforts
  • Participate in Accident Review Board, Safety Committees, and other committees as assigned
  • Perform safety inspections of work sites
  • Act as safety coordinator with responsibility for recommending and updating safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct work site safety and health evaluations

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting.

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
