Senior Accountant - Accounting Services Job at Inland Empire Health Plans
Position Summary/Position
Under direction of the Accounting Services Manager and/or Director, the Senior Accountant - Accounting Services performs complex professional accounting, maintains, or assists with maintaining the General Ledger and Financial Reporting systems, reconciles accounts, performs financial analysis, and prepares management reports, as needed. Participates in the general accounting functions and coordinates work with Team Members in Finance and other business units. Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
1. Establish and/or maintain a centralized recordkeeping system for Accounting Services functions (i.e.: accounts payable, accounts receivable, and/or cash management), acting as a liaison coordinating workflow of information to/from business units and the financial reporting system.
2. Lead cash management function including cash disbursement, cash reconciliations, cash receipts, journal entries, cash flow analysis, wire transfers, and make recommendations on transferring excess funds for investment earning purposes.
3. Complete month-end and year-end close in an accurate and timely manner.
4. Perform analysis and reconciliation of assigned accounts each month and supporting workpapers.
5. Prepare, update, organize, and maintain accounting records and reports.
6. Prepare or review monthly journal entries, work-papers, and management reports.
7. Maintain department records and reports and collect data for administrative and regulatory purposes.
8. Review accounting policies and procedures to ensure conformance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations and current systems and practices; review, evaluate, and assist in the revisions design, and implementation of accounting systems.
9. Provide lead sheets, support documentation and other request required for the annual external audit and other audits that may be performed throughout the year.
10. Analyze and determine cause between projected and actual revenue received.
11. Prepare and analyze accounts receivable, coordinating collection status and recommending write-off with appropriate business unit team members as may be deemed necessary.
12. Identify technical accounting issues. Review laws, legislation, and policies to determine impact on accounting procedures and to provide guidance in the performance of accounting and fiscal work.
13. Perform special analysis on financial data impacting business operations.
14. Train and lead in the evaluation of work performance of accounting and administrative personnel.
15. Enhance job knowledge by participating in professional development courses and other educational opportunities to improve skills. Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities) Cont Supervisory Responsibilities Leading: Guides Others Experience Qualifications
Five (5) or more years of accounting experience that would have developed the knowledge and abilities listed, including experience assisting with financial audits. Preferred Experience
Principles and practices of the health care industry and/or health care accounting preferred. Previous supervisory or lead capacity experience desired. Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Finance or a related field from an accredited institution required. Preferred Education Professional Certification
Possession of an active, unrestricted, and unencumbered Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License issued by the California Board of Accountancy preferred. Professional Licenses Drivers License Required No Knowledge Requirement
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and procedures.
Principles and methods of planning, managing, and maintaining an automated accounting system. Skills Requirement
Strong analytical skills. Extensive PC skills working on spreadsheet, general ledger, and report writer programs applicable to the position assigned. Skilled in calculating and preparing appropriate journal entries to record business transactions. Abilities Requirement

Employee must be able to sit for extended period of time, as well as work at the computer for long periods. Employee is required to use hands and fingers, especially for typing on the computer and using the mouse. Must also be able to reach with hands and arms to retrieve paperwork or files from cabinets and must occasionally lift heavy office supply boxes. Employee must be able to talk and hear, particularly for regular communications on the phone.
Position is eligible for Hybrid work location upon completing the necessary steps and receiving HR approval. All IEHP positions approved for telecommute or hybrid work locations may periodically be required to report to IEHP’s main campus for mandatory in-person meetings or for other business needs as determined by IEHP leadership.
