Apkudo, Inc. Remote

Senior Accountant – Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington (Coppell office location) – Hybrid (80-90% work-from-home) – $80-105K

Position Description:
As the Senior Accountant, you will be part of an energetic and committed Finance team that is passionate about supporting the entire organization and facilitating profitable growth. You will be a key member of the team, responsible for performing various accounting functions including the monthly close, financial statement preparation, and related analysis. The ability to be strategic while also being detail-oriented is essential to success in this role.

Though the role will be based or around the DFW area, most of your work will be done remotely. While your team members are only a phone call, “chat,” or video call away, you should be a productive self-starter who works well independently and who has strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. We, like most, appreciate people who have a passion for what they do, take pride in what they accomplish and present, and care about their team members and customers. We are growing dynamically and should also be enthusiastic about growing with us.

This is a great opportunity for an A+ Senior Accountant willing to initially master the G/L and then grow and advance their career in a non-political organization that is committed to excellence. We encourage personal and professional growth and think we provide an awesome employee experience. Apply today!

What you will do:

You will report to the Controller and play a key role in setting up the scalable structure and processes necessary to optimize the growth of the accounting function.

  • Perform and support the Controller in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Use NetSuite, Airbase, and Excel to prepare full-cycle General Ledger (G/L) entries and account reconciliations to ensure accurate Financial Statements
  • Prepare and reconcile A/P and A/R entries – this is essential to understanding our business and ensuring accurate monthly results. This process also includes presenting proposed payables for payments and reviewing outstanding receivables with the Controller and/or CFO on a weekly basis. (Note: Ultimately, you will help to hire and manage a person for the more transactional areas; however, your first steps will be to (1) learn our business, (2) learn accounting for all areas of the G/L thoroughly, (3) perfect our processes, and then (4) help to hire and train a Staff Accountant for these areas as we continue to grow.)
  • Lead the accounting for cash, fixed assets, lease accounting, and prepaid expenses.
  • Enhance, develop, and document our standard operating procedures (SOPs) for accounting to maintain continuity and strengthen internal controls
  • Coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments (e.g., designing/improving and coordinating the rollout of an enhanced procurement process).
  • Assist with supporting documentation to external auditors and/or investors as appropriate.
  • Review accounting issues and recommend appropriate treatment of transactions.
  • Partner cross-functionally to design system enhancements and process changes.
  • Provide oversight and training to junior accounting staff as we grow.
  • Grow to manage other areas such as leading the monthly close for international subsidiaries, managing cost accounting, and assisting with the oversight of payroll processing.
  • Prepare variance analyses and performance of financial statements analytics including concise and informative explanations for management.
  • Research & establish or update accounting policies and procedures as needed.
  • Provide US GAAP research and prepare accounting memos as/if required.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly revenue accounting close procedures including any potential deferred revenue.
  • Assist with contract analysis review and apply critical thinking to ensure SaaS and other revenue contracts are accounted for correctly (we are not currently public but do ideally want to follow ASC 606 as appropriate).
  • Perform other special projects and analyses as directed by management.

What you will need:
There are many paths to performing well. We are committed to supporting our employees through the different stages of their careers. With our support, we expect you to come up to speed fast and deliver great work without excessive guidance. It would likely be difficult to do that in this job without specialized education or proven successful experience in:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a CPA are strongly preferred. A Master’s degree in Accounting or an MBA is a plus.
  • Three-plus years of progressive accounting experience are required.
  • NetSuite, Airbase, and strong Excel (Pivot Tables and V-lookups) skills required. (Note: Experience with another tier-two accounting system like NetSuite and experience in another spend management system similar to Airbase may substitute for specific NetSuite and Airbase experience.)
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP.
  • Experience in a growing SaaS and/or IoT company is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with a positive internal and external customer service attitude are required.
  • Reliable, intelligent, positive, productive, and respectful with a sense of fun and a passion for what you do and what we do. We want you to enjoy our work and we want to enjoy working with you!

What we expect from everyone:
What does it take to be successful with us? We expect ourselves and each other to:

  • Own our work and the outcomes (by taking personal ownership to deliver on the commitments we make to our colleagues and our customers)
  • Trust and be trustworthy (by acting with integrity and providing excellent work for each other and our customers)
  • Put people first (by helping others be at their best - and making sure we are, too)
  • Communicate clearly (by speaking candidly, regularly, and respectfully to everyone)
  • Value everyone’s voice (because it’s all about the best ideas - not bureaucracy)

What you can expect from us:

  • 4 weeks of time off every year. You are expected to take that time off because we know that taking time off makes us better at our work and to each other
  • 12 paid holidays of your choice
  • Casual dress and a flexible working schedule, as priorities permit
  • A company-paid Google Pixel phone or a monthly credit to apply for your tech needs (including upgrading your bandwidth)
  • A monthly wellness stipend that you can use for things like a meditation app, standing desk, gym equipment, etc.
  • We have insurance coverage we’re proud of - for you and your dependents. We pay 100% of the cost of your individual coverage for vision (through VSP), dental (through Guardian Dental), and some medical plans (through United Health Care, the largest health insurance company in the U.S.)
  • HSA, FSA, and other similar benefits may reduce what you have to pay for these important parts of your life
  • 401(k) matching up to 4%
  • Up to $5,250/year for certification, continuing education, and tuition reimbursement related to your career path at Apkudo

The fine print:
This is not a travel-centric role. You should be available to potentially travel intermittently, with advance notice (expected to be less than 5% of your time). Potential travel locations include customer sites in and around the DFW area, Nashville, Baltimore, or to other sites as we grow.

The physical requirements include prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer (though you can use the tech benefit to help create whatever desk you’ll work best at).

We are an agile organization, and so the duties and description of this role may change at any time as we adapt.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
