The Role
What is the role
The successful candidate will be a part of Shell Pipeline's Asset Integrity & Technical Standards (AI&TS) Group. The role will be accountable for process execution of Pipeline Integrity Program (PIP) and assessment-related activities in support of Process Safety and Shell Pipeline's Integrity Management Program (IMP). Primary workplace will be Woodcreek in Houston TX. Execution of work activities that the employee supports will primarily take place in Texas, Louisiana, and California.
Accountabilities:
- Accountable for execution of In-Line Inspection (ILI) Data Integration (DI) processes for all pipeline assessment projects. These activities include: Assisting with the coordination of GIS data alignment, integration and evaluation of the results, facilitating data integration meetings, and project closeout. Accountable for approximately 25-35 assessments annually.
- Successful candidate will be the PIP Focal Point supporting a specific region of pipeline assets within the Shell Pipeline asset base. Primary asset areas are Onshore Gulf of Mexico (Louisiana/Texas), California/West Coast, and Offshore Louisiana. Additional support to other areas may be required as needed.
- Provide input to maintain, generate, and improve key integrity assessment-related documents, processes, guides, and procedures, including Shell Pipeline’s Fit For Purpose Technical Standards.
- Additional responsibilities may include supporting integrity projects (pressure testing, ECDA (External Corrosion Direct Assessment), smart pigging, etc.) as needed and technically supporting SPLC's ( Shell Pipeline Company LP) strategically sourced ILI vendor contracts.
- Facilitate data integration meetings in which integrity assessment results are discussed and work plans are created.
- Provide support in determining the most appropriate assessment technology for various pipeline types/conditions and support evaluating new technology where appropriate.
- Supports pipeline integrity reassessment intervals based on ILI results and repairs.
Special Challenges
- This position requires independent decision-making for determining pipeline assessment and repair activities which directly impact the safe, reliable, and efficient operations of Shell Pipeline's assets in the public domain.
- Individual in this role must be proactive and innovative in identifying and mitigating new or emerging threats and issues related to integrity assessment.
- Must be able to apply assessment principles in a practical, "fit for purpose” manner, leveraging external focus to ensure best practices are applied.
- Must have experience in dealing with a wide range of activities and numerous stakeholders, including operations, engineering, maintenance, and distribution leadership. Communication, engagement, and documentation skills are critical.
- Must have experience in dealing with conflict and applying healthy tension to drive the integrity agenda.
Requirements:
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline.
- At least seven (7) years of experience in pipeline operations, engineering and/or maintenance, with an exposure in integrity assessment techniques (i.e. smart pig), data analysis and integration, pipeline repair systems, and application of PHMSA's HCA (High Consequence Area ) rule is desired
- Knowledge of pipeline systems and operations (Offshore experience is a plus)
- Knowledge of codes and regulations that govern pipelines
- Knowledge of pipeline degradation mechanisms and how to mitigate to achieve ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable)
- Strong analytical skills and strong skills in managing and manipulating large data sets, including using various computer software tools to align and analyze data
- Strong communications and meeting facilitation skills; strong MS Excel skills (ability to manipulate ILI data), conceptual knowledge of ILI vendor raw data viewing software, knowledge of GIS software, and ability to balance workload of multiple projects and activities are also required
