Senior Property Claims Examiner
Our client is seeking a Sr. Property Claims Examiner to support the Claims team in their Ft. Mill, SC office. This role works within specific limits and authority on property claim assignments of moderate technical complexity. Determines coverage and investigates, analyzes, negotiates and settles claims not typically requiring outside investigation while delivering quality customer service in a moderate volume, medium to high complexity work environment. The incumbent will be expected to be proficient in utilizing virtual capabilities coupled with alternative vendor resources (as needed) to confirm coverage and to validate the amount of covered loss.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, review and timely processing of claims.
- Proper claim coverage, analysis, and file documentation.
- Enter and update claims on computer.
- Establish and update claim reserves promptly.
- Investigates and evaluates the claim using virtual estimating capabilities in conjunction with the utilization of alternative vendor solutions.
- Notify and communicate with reinsurer.
- Notify and communicate appropriate issues to underwriting.
- Resolution of claim through payment, negotiation or denial of claim.
- Maintain claim diary and comply with departmental diary procedures.
- Comply with the Unfair Claims Practice laws in the handling of all claims.
- Respond to claims status inquiries.
- Continuing education on insurance and claims matters.
- Direct and handle subrogation, salvage and loss recovery efforts on assigned files.
- Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by a supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Educational/Training Requirement:
- Four year college degree or comparable claims work experience
- Over 7 years in property claims experience
Licenses/Certifications:
- Completion of the AIC designation or participation in the CPCU program or
- Over 7 years in progressive claims roles
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and analyze policy coverages
- Strong negotiation skills
- Strong collaborating skills, and an ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high energy, self-motivated and proactive
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask, and be flexible with regard to workload and assignments
- Ability to exercise judgment
- Experience using Xactimate or other property estimating software
- Experience with Microsoft Windows, Outlook, and Excel or transferable software packages.
- Holds and maintains appropriate adjuster licensing and certification(s) in assigned territories and/or will obtain additional licensing based upon business needs
