Job Purpose

Alamance County Public Libraries are searching for a friendly team member to sort, shelve and process library materials for circulation and discharge. May assist in clerical, maintenance and housekeeping tasks as assigned. Must be able to work independently with little supervision; interact courteously with members answering simple questions, give direction to areas within the library, and provide basic assistance on self-check to members.

Position is expected to be scheduled 15 hours a week. Candidate must have reliable transportation to and from the library.

Responsibilities

  • Shelving and Retrieving library materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Inspecting library materials for repair or replacement.
  • Assisting patrons with utilizing their library.
  • Retrieve available patron requests and missing items.
  • Shelf read to ensure proper order on shelves.
  • Retrieve and empty indoor/outdoor book return collection bins.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities

Education & Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D equivalent is preferred, not required. Volunteerism or community experience is highly recommended.

Computer Skills: Must have a basic to intermediate functional knowledge of computers. Experience with internet, email, Microsoft Word, preferred.
