The Washington State Attorney General’s Office’s Social and Health Services Division in Tumwater, WA has an immediate opening for an Assistant Attorney General in the Child Support, Management Services and Revenue Recovery (CMR) Section. This is a great opportunity to do truly meaningful and interesting work in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Duties

The CMR section provides legal representation to Washington social service agencies on a wide range of legal topics. CMR’s primary client is the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). CMR represents DSHS’s Economic Services Administration, which provides one in four Washington residents with cash assistance, food benefits, child support enforcement, disability determination services, and employment support. CMR also advises and represents DSHS’s Office of the Secretary and the Facilities Finance and Analytics Administration regarding various management and administrative issues such as Public Records Act compliance, privacy, administrative law, rulemaking, legislation, contracts, language testing, enterprise technology, facilities management, WISHA and Workers Compensation, financial recovery, public assistance fraud, and institutional board review. In addition, CMR serves as general counsel to the Washington Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides long-term care and services to veterans and soldiers, and the Department of Services for the Blind, which provides business and support services to Washington residents who are blind or have low vision.

This position involves a mix of legal advice and litigation. The position also provides litigation support to other SHO sections during periods of high workload and limited capacity.

This full time position is located in Tumwater, WA and may involve travel to other counties.

Qualifications

In addition to meeting the requirement to serve as an Assistant Attorney General, desirable qualities and experience include:

Applicants must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. (Applicants who meet the other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered.) AAG salaries are set between $71,652 and $134,208. The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CB A.
