Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a candidate for the position of Administrative and Office Specialist for the Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center (LCAKC) located in South Hill, VA. This position will provide administrative support for the center and provide assistance to new and returning students with the admissions process, placement testing, financial aid and course offerings. This position is part-time with a flexible work schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to communicate professionally with students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public by email, telephone and in-person
- Provide general information to students regarding programs offered, the admissions process, placement testing, financial aid and course offerings
- Interpret policies and explain general college information to the public
- Provide general administrative services to include front desk coverage, answering and forwarding phone calls, sending and responding to emails, filing, developing documents and spreadsheets, use of copy and fax machines and submitting supply orders
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Assist with special projects and/or activities at the center and in the community
- Perform functions in PeopleSoft to assist with student inquiries
- Provide coverage in the absence of the Center Coordinator
Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Experience in an office environment
- Intermediate knowledge and skills with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Experience using e-mail and the Internet
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Ability to assist students with the admissions, financial aid and enrollment processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Associate’s Degree
- Previous experience working with PeopleSoft or similar student registration software program
- Experience in an educational setting
- Career Readiness Certificate
Special Requirements
- Satisfactory reference and background checks are a condition of employment.
- When specified, official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate.
- This position is limited to an average of 29 hours per week.
