Job Summary

Assists the Mechanic to ensure the safe an effective operation of all the mechanical equipment; including main engines, air compressors, potable water system, sewage treatment system, drill water manifold, pumps, bilge manifold, drilling equipment, cranes, air conditioners, etc.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for own safety.
  • Attends and participates in all pre-tour, post tour and weekly safety meetings.
  • Eliminates all mechanical hazards as they are identified, and establishes effective barriers when unable to remove hazards.
  • Ensures efficient and continual functioning of all mechanical, centrifugal and auxiliary machinery and equipment including: engines, compressors, hull and deck machinery, portable water and sewage treatment systems, drill water manifold and pumps, bilge system, fire pumps, HVAC, centrifugal and auxiliary pumps, drilling equipment, and the crane.
  • Prioritizes maintenance tasks assigned on safety & environmental critical equipment/systems (SECE’s) as defined in VAMS.
  • For rigs with Performance Standards
    • Prioritizes maintenance task assigned with Assurance Activities required by Performance Standards.
    • Maintains an understanding of the relationship between the rigs safety case, identified Major Accident Hazards, the bow tie assessment, Performance Standard (PS) documents, and PS Assurance Activity tasks in VAMS.
  • Uses the VAMS system to be able to identify equipment identified as Barriers.
  • Monitors fuel transfer to/from MODU, and taking on water and diesel.
  • Adheres to MODU mobilization procedures as directed by operations manual and the Barge Engineer.
  • Maintains proper levels of mechanical parts, spares and equipment inventories.
  • Ensures all mechanical tools and equipment are kept in safe working order.
  • Assists the Electricians and Welders on special projects when requested to do so.
  • Ensures compliance with Valaris Management System (VMS), as well as applicable government regulations and rules.
  • Ensures activities are conducted in compliance with Valaris Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).
  • Maintains appropriate logs and records in accordance with company, regulatory and certification agencies requirements.
  • Assists in corporate and regulatory inspections.
  • Responsible for creating an environment in which open communications concerning safety issues can occur at the appropriate levels in the organization for appropriate action and resolution.
  • Maintains regular communication with the OIM and Barge Engineer during all phases of major MODU repair and maintenance projects.
  • Conducts pre-task meetings and when a work order is required, only undertake authorized work.

Qualifications / Experience

  • One to Three (1-3) or more years working in a Mechanical role with prior offshore experience preferred.
  • Must meet the training and certification requirements which will vary by unit location according to local requirements and regulations. Specific unit requirements will be found in local job specification procedures and guidelines
