The Position

This position works directly with students who come to or are referred to the Counseling Center, prioritizing the needs of the student through an initial assessment. This position will serve as the first line intervention for students and will connect students with Counselors according to priority and urgency. Responds to faculty, staff and students who communicate with or come to the Counseling Center.

Staff Duration: Full Time 12 months

What You Will Do

1. Conducts brief triage consultations with students seeking services from the Counseling Center including but not limited to risk assessment, safety planning, case management and connecting students with the appropriate Counselor; also refers students to appropriate College or community resources.

2. Assists Counselors with case management and projects including academically at-risk students, recovery and prevention programs; facilitates communications between Counselors and Students (email; telephone calls, correspondence, etc.).

3. Receives and appropriately disseminates crisis reports to Counselors; assists Security, Counselors with connection with PESS for in-depth evaluation; follows up with students after PESS evaluation and/or hospitalization.

4. Responds to CARE reports and consults with CARE Team as well as other assigned reports in an accurate and timely manner; utilizes current software including Titanium to fulfill the technology requirements of the position and adjusts to new technologies as they evolve.

5. Maintains community referral network and associated communication venues (webpage, printed material, etc.)

6. Develops, coordinates, and/or conducts seminars on mental health and wellness topics; assists, organizes and coordinates presentations, speakers and events by staff and external experts; assists counselors with these events as assigned

7. Attends and participates in staff meetings, required training, etc. as designated.

8. Assists Director with administrative functions related to Counseling Center operations and procedures; updates procedures manual; participates in the evaluation of Center processes; recommends changes as appropriate

The Successful Candidate Must Have

1. Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related discipline

2. Three years of prior client service experience of which two years involved working in a community, government, social service, or similar environment that required the ability to balance multiple simultaneous demands in a fast-paced work environment.

3. Ability to communicate effectively and handle high pressure urgent situations of medium to high risk

4. One year of prior team, program or project leadership experience.

5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other related technology required to perform the duties of the position; ability to prepare detailed reports, communications and documents.

Even Better If You Have

1. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related

2. Possession of an NJLAC, LSW or another related licensure

3. Experience with at-risk populations, especially in education settings

4. Experience providing brief therapeutic interventions

5. Experience providing crisis assessment and support services for high-risk clients
