This position is currently located within the Department of Public Safety but will transfer to the Department of Adult Correction when it is established on January 1, 2023. The standardized annual salary for this position is $42,264 dependent upon fund availability and OSHR approval. Reporting to a Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position will carry a caseload of male medium custody level offenders, which involves supportive counseling, answering and following up on questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major or specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, work release, education, and recreation, as well as transition planning and coordinating. Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive. Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. Operating various office machines accurately. Preparing written reports and forms reflecting accurate information reviewed from various sources.Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observations. Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling to include suicide prevention. This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Human Services, Recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institutionOrHigh school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public SafetyOrAn equivalent combination of training and experience.Necessary Special Qualifications: MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
