Summary:
The Boulder Daily Camera newspaper in Boulder County, Colo., is looking for an experienced journalist who specializes in higher education to serve as the higher education reporter, covering the University of Colorado, especially the Boulder campus, Front Range Community College’s Longmont campus and Naropa University for the web and print editions.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned journalist with 3 to 5 years of experience as a higher education reporter, who is a master of AP style and who will help cultivate a strong audience, both online and in the community. The ideal candidate will be a strong storyteller and will possess a unique journalistic voice. The ideal candidate will develop a social media presence as the go-to person for news about higher education in Boulder County, both in daily and enterprise story format. Candidates should be well-versed in social media, search-engine optimization and will be able to cultivate fresh ideas to bring to the Daily Camera and its sister newspapers.
What you will bring:

Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience

The preferred candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience as a higher education reporter at a daily newspaper or online news outlet

Relevant experience in news reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content

The preferred candidate has a unique writing voice that speaks to their audience

Works well under deadline pressure

Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print

Experiments with new digital tools and platforms

Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires

The hourly range is $19.00-$21.00. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, MediaNews Group offers a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition program, and 401K plan (all benefits are based on eligibility).
