HVAC Mechanic I

This position is assigned to and located at the Coastal Region Maintenance Yard in Greenville, NC but could assist at other locations as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Manager.
- The primary purpose of this position is to perform installations and major repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems ensuring that assigned systems and equipment within an Adult Correctional/ Juvenile Justice Facility and/or support buildings are maintained in a safe and efficient manner.
- This position is required to perform at the Journeyman level in the areas associated with heating/air conditioning, chillers and refrigeration; design, install, service and repair HVAC energy control and management systems in existing buildings, renovations or new construction.
- This position provides technical guidance and support to other staff members in the area of HVAC Energy Control and Management Systems.
- The position will be expected to supervise the work of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled labor (including inmates) to assist in completing assigned tasks and provide support to other staff members in the area of HVAC and/or other duties assigned by the supervisor as deemed necessary.
- Position will be expected to build and install duct work associated with air handling systems and install or replace chilled water piping associated with chiller systems.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Pay: $35,788.00 - $62,628.00 per year
