    The Mathematics Consultant/Teacher is responsible for providing curriculum/instructional leadership, supervision, and coordination at the district level of the mathematics program.


    AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
    • Instructs in accordance with the Naugatuck teacher job description.
    • Provide curriculum/instructional leadership, supervision, and coordination at the district level of the mathematics program.
    • Develop curriculum in alignment with CMT and CAPT objectives and monitor implementation for consistent delivery of mathematics instruction, including other content areas, across grade levels for all students.
    • Improve and enrich the classroom instructional program by providing support to teachers across all content areas in the regular classrooms and in special education and gifted classes through consultation, collaboration, observation, demonstration, planning lessons, providing alternative programs, modeling, coaching, team teaching, and assisting with instructional strategies consistent with the curriculum.
    • Help organize heterogeneous classes and flexible groupings within classrooms, and set standards/goals to achieve.
    • Plan, coordinate, and conduct in-service training and staff development activities, including workshops and classroom demonstrations across all content areas.
    • Coordinate testing results (district-based, achievement, CMT, CAPT) and assessment of student and program needs at the building level, designing indicators of progress as needed.
    • Monitor progress of all identified students by keeping records and analyzing data for program improvement and student needs.
    • Remain current with research and introduce new trends and ideas, strategies, methods, and materials to staff.
    • Prepare recommendations for budget, oversee and order supplies, evaluate and provide materials and resources to teachers necessary to implement the curriculum and improve instruction.
    • Give direct support to students by teaching effective strategies to whole class, small groups or individuals as required in mathematics classes, content area classrooms, and remedial classes as appropriate.
    • Identify students in need of academic assistance, diagnose and analyze their needs, prescribe a program of early intervention or remediation, and supervise and coordinate remedial program with classroom teachers.
    • Evaluate new students upon entry for placement in an appropriate instructional program.
    • Communicate and interpret longitudinal data regarding program strengths and weaknesses and student progress to Board of Education, community, parents, administrators and teachers, initiating action as required.
    • Serve on the Child Study Teach, EIP and participate in the Planning and Placement Team process.
    • Act as a consultant/coordinator to the principal.
    • Act as a liaison to central office and among administrators, teachers, parents and paraprofessionals.
    • Coordinate with mathematics personnel in the district.
    • Performs additional duties, where appropriate, which are assigned within the scope of employment and certification.



    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    Education:

    Essential: Elementary certification; Middle School certification; Mathematics 7-12 certification
    Desirable: Advanced Degree

    Experience:

    Essential: Prior experience with developing programs for schools. Must have the ability to work with diverse groups (staff and students), and professional organizations. Consultant needs the ability to develop and implement initiatives related to mathematics in instruction and assessment. Data driven decision making and setting of individual and district goals and promoting the strategies needed to achieve them is required.

    Desirable: Microsoft Office software experience.
