The Program Director for the Floyd County, Indiana Department of Parks and Recreation, responsible for organizing and promoting recreation programs within the community. The Program Director will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Parks.

DUTIES:

Collaborates with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent on such operations as: evaluation of programs and employees: coordination of recreational activities within the community; and developing and administering a comprehensive program of recreational opportunities for local citizens as outlined in the Departments Master Plan.

-Prepares and submits proposals for programs to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent.

-Assists with all planning, promotion, implementation and record-keeping of all youth, adult and senior adult athletic programs within the Sports Center including scheduling games, tournaments, rentals and maintains accurate records of events.

-Assists with promoting all facilities, overseeing all public relations and social media for athletic programs and special events.

-Assists with recreational activities, camps and special events.

-Prepares various reports, submitting them to the Superintendent, Park Board, and others as required.

-Collaborates with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent on such operations as: supervising part-time recreational employees; providing corrective instruction; and evaluating job performance.

-Recruits, trains and recognizes volunteers and communicates department and program goals and objectives to them.

-Promotes recreation programs and activities among general public. Assist with publicity and weekly signboard preparation, establish and maintain partnerships with organizations, businesses, and institutions for collaborative efforts on mutual projects and missions.

-Maintains regular communications with subordinate personnel regarding Sports Center activities and program status. Offers supervisory assistance as needed.

-Collaborates with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent on annual review of recreational activities and programs, maintains accurate record of programs, activities, participants and prepares and submits annual report. Experience with RecTrac Software Programs or possess the skills needed to learn the computer program.

-Processes purchases and receipts for the recreation department with Superintendent and Office Manager.

-Will assume the responsibilities of the Superintendent, in their absence.

-Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

-Possess a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Physical Education or related field or equivalent supplemented with at least 3 years of responsible experience in parks and recreation or any combination of education training and experience which provides the knowledge skills and abilities to effectively perform the duties of the job.

-Must be flexible to facilitate seasonal work scheduling. Work schedule will involve evening hours, weekend hours and holiday hours as scheduled with the Assistant Superintendent

-Knowledge and understanding of the use of social media in Parks and Recreation promotions.

-Thorough knowledge of department functions and ability to direct recreational activities and operations consistent with program goals.

-Ability to express thoughts both orally and in writing; ability to communicate effectively with other government agencies and officials, other employees, and members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner.

-Maintains accurate accounting of all schedules and fees in RecTrac and works in cooperation with the Office Manager in meeting all recommendations of the Indiana State Board of Accounts.

-Possess a certification in First Aid, AED, CPR and Food Safety or the ability to within a 6-month period of hire.

-Ability to possess a valid Driver's License and remains insurable to operate Parks and Recreation vehicles.
