Psychiatrist Needed to Support the Department of Veteran Affairs in Georgia

Period of Performance: One (1) year base period with Four (4) option year periods to follow.
Schedule: Full-Time, from 8:00am-4:30pm with a ½ hour lunch break.
Position Requirements:
- Must have an MD/DO degree from an accredited university.
- Must have an active and unrestricted medical license in ANY state/territory.
- Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible per the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- Active BLS Certification
- Active DEA Certification
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
Duties and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services for Veterans enrolled for care in the Atlanta VA Healthcare System Outpatient Clinics.
- Provide general psychiatric care to male and female adult Veterans which includes, but is not limited to, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and individual psychotherapy.
- Prescribe the appropriate psychotropic medications, provides general clinical management of patients, and requests appropriate consultations with other medical disciplines.
- Assess risk factors and develops a preliminary disposition plan, involving the Veteran (and with his/her consent,) the family/significant other.
- Provides treatment for common diagnoses to include anxiety disorders, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, other Serious Mental Illnesses, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries.
- Provide assessment of serious and complicated cases involving psychiatric illness, catastrophic medical conditions, dementia, and other high-risk diagnoses.
- Exercise clinical judgment in the selection of or adaptation of standard and accepted clinical theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of specialized problems or clinical populations.
- Be a member of a behavioral health interdisciplinary treatment team and will work collaboratively with other disciplines on the team in providing comprehensive care.
- Establish professional working relationships with clinical service providers within the medical center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics, providing telephone and curbside consultation as needed and screening consults that are received for appropriateness prior to scheduling.
- Provide direct clinical supervision of mid-level providers, psychiatric advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate.
- Provide telephone and telehealth assessments as needed.
- Cooperate with and participate in, medical duties or functions related to the quality of care, peer review, and other performance improvement activities.
- Take call in rotation with other psychiatrists in the Mental Health Service Line.
