We are currently seeking a highly qualified Aeronautical Engineer to develop technologies, algorithms, and concepts informed by extensive physics-based modeling and simulation. Are you passionate about your work and dream of using innovative facilities to explore solutions? If so, the position will require partnering with domain experts in multiple scientific subject areas across Sandia to solve the most outstanding national security problems.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

• Perform analysis, design, develop, prototype, and flight test novel aerospace systems and technologies
• Create flight and sensor system models and apply multi-disciplinary design and optimization methods/tools for conceptual design trade space analysis
• Work as a member of an impactful, hardworking, and multi-disciplinary teams

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will work onsite.

• A Master's degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM field
• The ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

• PhD in above relevant fields
• Ability to think creatively and rapidly deliver quality solutions to challenging technical problems
• Experience with Python or C++
• Possess a strong dedication to positive teaming dynamic, strong written and verbal skills, detail oriented with a keen focus on customer service
• The ability to make decisions requiring scientific or engineering judgment across more than one subject area
• An active DOE Q-level security clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret

We develop an understanding of potential future warfighter technology needs through simulation and analysis of mission and engagement vignettes. This allows for development of a deep understanding of potential gaps in warfighter capabilities and helps to drive proposals, technology roadmaps, as well as requirements for future systems. The capabilities draw upon both the offensive and defensive technology expertise at the laboratory. The department both applies existing tools and develops new tools for creating a robust scrimmaging capability. The department seeks broad integration with warfighters and technology providers to the government.

The Advanced Concepts Engineering department explores, analyzes, designs, and develops advanced aerospace system concepts and technologies for both offensive and defensive applications and is located within a larger Integrated Military Systems Center that designs, integrates, and flies advanced aerospace systems. We innovate across all aerospace fields throughout the technology to mission level hierarchy.

We also provide expertise and technical leadership at Sandia in the areas of:

• Flight vehicle dynamics
• Flight vehicle GNC systems
• Fire control and targeting algorithms
• Space constellation design, tracking and scheduling, and radiometry
• Mission and system-level engagement analysis
