Sensory Technician

Position Description

UIRehab is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and flexible sensory technician to provide an environment where the client feels safe and able to connect with their surroundings whether they are sensory seeking or desiring a sensory calming environment. The sensory technician will be trained by the occupational therapists to facilitate the process of introducing the sensory modalities to the clients to further reinforce the atmosphere of a safe and secure environment.

Listed below are the essential functions of your position. This list is not inclusive and you will be required to perform other tasks as determined necessary by supervisory personnel:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· The sensory technician (ST) works directly with the clients under the supervision of the occupational therapists for learning the technical skills and use of the sensory modalities.

· The ST will receive training regarding all of the electrical sensory equipment’s and will be responsible for setting up the modalities, ensuring modifies are turn off at the end of the day, maintaining the proper care and cleanliness by disinfecting of the modalities, and follow all safety precautionary measures to ensure proper use and report to the OT if any modality is in disrepair.

· The ST is also responsible for all of the non-electrical modalities and maintaining the equipment’s.

· The ST will be knowledgeable and responsible to know each and every purpose of every modality to ensure that the modalities are appropriately and properly used by the clients and able to explain to anyone asking what the purpose of every modality is.

· The ST is responsible to observe behaviors and mannerisms that may indicate distress where medical attention is needed.

· The ST is responsible to follow all medical protocols specific to the individual needs of each client in the sensory program and know the proper steps to perform and follow when the situation arises.

· The ST should be aware of all precautions and allergies every client has in the sensory program.

· The ST should know and have access to every client’s family, parents, guardian information for emergency situation, IHP or any concerns the family, and guardian may have within the HIPPA contexts.

· The ST should know and be able to perform all transfers, positioning and handling all clients in the sensory program for daily use of the modalities.

· The ST is responsible of performing all toileting, diaper changes, self-care needs and if the situation arises the need for showering the client in the sensory program.

· The ST is responsible of knowing the dietary needs and preparation of every sensory client.

· The ST should all of the different feeding procedures of every client in the sensory program.

· The ST should know how to don and doff client splints, braces and other orthoses.

· The ST should know how to properly use the client assistive devices such as communication boards, interface devices and other personal equipment.

· The ST should be knowledgeable regarding the proper use, safety and maintenance of the client wheelchairs.

· The ST is responsible of maintaining all documentation requirements for every client in the sensory program.

· The ST is responsible for reporting any findings that needs attention such as redness or bruises noticed, poor ADL when arriving to program and other situations detrimental to the needs, health and well-being of every client in the sensory program

· The ST is responsible for following universal precautions at all times dealing with the all clients

· The ST should be knowledgeable how to care for the clients in the event where a client is ill to avoid cross contamination with the other clients and staff.

· The ST is responsible in accompanying the client to the hospital during 911 emergency calls as part of their duty for every client in the sensory program

· The ST is responsible for maintaining proper attendance being on time to ensure proper care for all clients in the sensory department.

· The ST should follow all rules outlined for all employee handbook

· The ST needs to CPR, First Aid and Med Certified and responsible of maintaining these certification accurate and up to date.

· Vaccinated and boosted

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.50 - $20.00 per hour
