General Statement of Responsibilities:
The Shelter Manager (SM) provides direct service to residents living in the shelter at Choices. It is the responsibility of the SM to facilitate the entrance and exit from the shelter of Choices’ clients. It is also the responsibility of the SM to answer the local 24-hour crisis hotline and provide trauma informed crisis intervention. The SM works closely with the Residential Services Coordinator (RSC) and other staff in ensuring that all individuals requesting any services of Choices are given those services in the most effective, efficient, and appropriate manner possible.
The SM reports to the Residential Services Coordinator. SM will participate in monthly shelter manager meetings coordinated by the RSC. The RSC shall review the SM at least annually in writing. In carrying out assigned position responsibilities, s/he is required to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate initiative, and maintain a high degree of confidentiality. The Shelter Manager is required to complete an orientation to Choices, 32 hours of volunteer training and ongoing education as required.
Major Duties:
- Provide trauma informed crisis intervention to Choices clients, both in person and through the hotline or teletypewriter (TTY);
- Follow agency shelter policies and procedures as specified in the Operations Manual and Shelter Resource Manual.
- Answer the local 24-hour crisis hotline during applicable shifts (including overnights, holidays and weekends). Respond to calls in accord with hotline procedures.
- Facilitate clients and families exit from shelter, including accurate documentation of information on clients in shelter and completion of exit forms; responsible for resident leaving their living spaces clean and in order; responsible for security system and thermostat control; oversee smooth functioning of residence; manage facilities after exit and in preparation for new arrivals.
- Processes non-monetary donations and ensures they are logged, sorted, and placed in designated areas. Keep track of food, toiletries, health/beauty aids, towels, baby and child items, bed linen and cleaning supply inventories.
- Meet with Residential Services Coordinator on a periodic basis either through email, phone or in person, for client case supervision and informational meetings.
- Arrange shelter coverage/leave time among the other shelter managers so that there is coverage of shelter. Requests for time off need to be approved by immediate supervisor, Residential Services Coordinator.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by the RSC and Executive Director
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license/acceptable driving record
- Working knowledge of the issues that face survivors of domestic and sexual violence
- Effective oral, written and interpersonal communications experience
- Ability to maintain complete records and documentation
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Exercise self-control and appropriate professional demeanor in working with all residents
- Exercise sound judgement
- Ability to climb stairs and lift 30-50 pounds

Pay: $11.00 - $24.03 per hour
