White Bear Lake Area Schools - Student Success Coach Job at Minnesota Alliance With Youth
Every single young person deserves an effective education — one that lifts up their dignity, honors their voice, and prepares them to thrive after graduation.
AmeriCorps Promise Fellows spend a school year helping a small group of Minnesota students in grades 6 to 12 get the education they need to start off strong in life. Much more than a tutor, AmeriCorps Promise Fellows work one-on-one with students who are struggling in school using the proven Promise Fellow Model for youth support. As a Promise Fellow, you will foster your student's unique talents, honor their voices, and help them prepare them for graduation and beyond.
As a caring adult in your school or organization, you’ll support young people through evidence-based interventions targeting;
- Attendance: Provide attendance coaching, call home if students miss class, and increase student attendance by creating a caring adult relationship.
- Engagement: Provide avenues for increased youth engagement in school and the broader community by coordinating programs like lunchtime mentoring, book clubs, promoting youth leadership development, and connecting youth with civic opportunities.
- Course Performance: Help students set academic goals and provide before, in, and after school educational support for individuals and small groups as students work towards their goals.
AmeriCorps members make a difference in the lives of Minnesota's young people, strengthen our communities, and cultivate lifelong leadership in work and life. Your work with young people will help combat the racism and economic inequity in Minnesota’s educational systems, so students of color and students from less wealthy families can start their adult lives with a fair shot at lifelong success. The work will be challenging, and you’re guaranteed to grow and change along the way. But all year long, you’ll have the support you need: financial assistance, mentorship and leadership training, and the extraordinary community of other Promise Fellows, present and past.
Promise Fellows serve at a school or community-based organization during their term of service. There are monthly opportunities to connect as a larger team with other AmeriCorps Promise Fellows from across the state. Service host sites are located in, though not limited to, Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro, St. Cloud, Northfield, and Duluth. Positions are available both full-time and part-time starting January 19, 2023 and ending June 30, 2023.
By design, Minnesotans of all ages and from all walks of life qualify to serve in AmeriCorps. If you’re willing to spend a year in service to young people in Minnesota communities, you are an exceptional person — and we want to hear from you.
