The Fernley Swimming Pool is currently accepting applications for a full-time Facility Coordinator. This position will oversee aquatic programs and staff; perform routine administrative office support; and assist in the general operations of the Fernley Swimming Pool District.

Salary Range*:

  • $21.39 - $24.80 (Employee/Employer Paid Retirement)
  • $18.50 - $21.45 (Employer Paid Retirement)

Summary of Job Purpose: Under the supervision of the Facility Director, oversees the development, promotion, and implementation of aquatic programs; oversees part-time and seasonal staff; performs routine administrative office support; represents the Fernley Swimming Pool at public events; assists in the general operations of the Fernley Swimming Pool District.

Essential Functions: The duties listed below are examples of work typically performed by employees in these positions. An employee may not be assigned all duties listed and may be assigned duties which are not listed below.

  • Administers the District’s recreational programs, including but not limited to the planning, development, marketing, scheduling, and evaluation of such programs.
  • Maintains records and reports of new or ongoing programs for program effectiveness.
  • Administers and schedules usage of FSPD facilities by the public.
  • Communicates information to the public.
  • Represents the District on social sites and public meetings.
  • Interacts with the public on a regular basis in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Oversees and directs lifeguard staff’s functions as needed, including participating in recruiting, training, disciplining, and evaluating part-time and seasonal staff.
  • Assists the Director as needed and may assume certain responsibilities in the Director’s absence.
  • Provides information to the public, management, and employees that requires the interpretation of policies, rules, or procedures.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily. Candidates are expected to know upon hire, or be capable of quickly learning, the following.

Knowledge of:

  • Swimming pool health, safety, and maintenance principles and practice.
  • Occupational safety standards.
  • Standard managerial skills.
  • Best practices in the development, marketing, and administration of recreational aquatic programs

Ability to:

  • Work autonomous to develop, market, and administer recreational aquatic programs.
  • Provide employee supervisory responsibilities such as maintaining employee work schedules, performing employee training, and staff review.
  • Recognize and react calmly and effectively to emergency situations using American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid technique and skills.
  • Assist customers in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Enforce established policy and procedure.

Certifications, Licenses, and Training

Candidates should possess or be able to acquire the following certifications within the first six months of hire:

  • Certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard.
  • Certification in American Red Crs CPR / First Aid / AED.

Candidates should possess or be able to acquire the following certifications within two years of hire:

  • PHTA Certified Pool Operator Certification
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor

Education or Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities required in the essential duties, such as:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent course work in recreations, public administration, business administration, or a related field, or
  • Two years of increasing responsibility experience directing and overseeing a recreation program or event operations with one year of administrative responsibility, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements: Shift work, split shifts, rotating work schedule, weekdays, weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required.

Physical and Mental Requirements: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.

Employees must have the strength, stamina, and coordination to frequently swim, walk, sit, bend, stoop, andstand for long periods of time. Regular use of hands to finger, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Occasional climbing or balancing. Occasional lifting and/or moving of 50 pounds or more with assistance and proper training. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.

Employees must have the ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with others, including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public, and others during emergency and non-emergency situations.

Working Conditions:

Work environment includes exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and outside environments including hot and cold temperatures, wind, and direct sunlight. Possible exposure to hazardous conditions, including toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels may fluctuate from moderate to extreme. Frequent contact with members of the public, periodic contact with angry and upset individuals, and physical/personal contact with others.
